PESHAWAR - An American missile strike targeting a compound killed five militants and injured several others in Data Khail area of South Waziristan Agency (SWA) on Tuesday. Sources said the strike took place in Landidog village, 20 kilometres west of Wana, the main town in South Waziristan tribal region. The militants were using the compound owned by a local tribesman Fazal Karam, the sources said. According to tribal sources, official also confirmed the attack and casualties but said: Identities of those killed in the strike were not yet known. It was not immediately clear if there were any high-profile victims in the drone attack on the tribal areas. However, the US did not confirm the attack. The US strikes are highly unpopular among the people, who see foreign military action on Pakistani soil as violation of the national sovereignty.
