ISLAMABAD  - Former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President and counsel for Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in contempt of court case, Aitzaz Ahsan on Thursday said that former Law Minister Babar Awan should have appeared before the court in the contempt case.

Talking to media persons outside the Supreme Court, he said that Babar Awan was summoned by the court as witness because he was the then Law Minister.

He said that Prime Minister could have benefitted from Babar Awan’s appearance in the court.

He said that the President was a symbol of the Federation ,therefore, he enjoyed immunity in all the cases. He said after the Attorney General completed arguments the court ordered that the Prime Minister would submit written statement on March 19th or the PM himself will appear before the bench of the SC on March 21st. He said that prosecution could not prove any case against the Prime Minister because he submitted only his orders in the SC which was not linked with this case. Nargis Sethi sent summary to the Prime Minister in which she described that the Constitution of the country gave immunity to the President in any case because he was symbol of the Federation, adding, that the summary was presented before the court.
