Country’s uplift links with women amelioration



KARACHI - It is a proven fact that women play a dynamic role in the success of any society and it is imperative for any country’s development to bring betterment in women’s condition.
These views were expressed by Dr Muhammad Qaiser, vice chancellor, Karachi University. He was addressing the programme organised to celebrate Women’s Day by the Centre of Excellence for Women’s Studies, KU. He presided over the launching ceremony of Pakistan journal of Gender Studies, Vol-5 and inaugurated newly constructed classroom. He appreciated the research activities of the Centre and assured his assistance in solving the problems of the Centre.
Nasim Bano, self-employed businesswoman, praised the efforts of the Centre and Anjuman Taraqqi-e-Niswan. She said that both the organisations had provided them interest-free loan which helped in expansion of their home-based work and these women were regularly paying their instalments. She expressed hope that in future both the organisations would support them.
Faculty of Arts Dean Dr Zafar iqbal applauded the efforts of the Centre and congratulated recognition of Pakistan Journal of Gender Studies by Higher Education Commission. Dr Nasreen Aslam Shah, director, Centre of Excellence for Women’s Studies, said the Centre was conducting research on women and gender issues. A research and documentation centre has also been established at the Centre which will help these women to market their products and will have a place for sale of their products at the Centre. She added that the Centre will continue to provide them interest free loans. She also acknowledged assistance and support of HEC to the Centre. At the end, Shagufta Nasreen thanked all the guests.
