LAHORE – Unidentified swindlers poisoned a man to death and fled away after collecting his mobile phone, cash and other valuables worth thousands of rupees in Shahdara area, police sources said on Thursday.
Police said that the deceased, identified as Amjad Bhatti, a resident of Gujranwala, visited the shrine of Baba Jameel Chishti a day earlier where unidentified swindlers gave him drug-mixed sweets. As Amjad consumed the sweets, he fell unconscious. The swindlers collected his belongings including cash, wristwatch, and mobile phone and managed to escape from the crime scene.
Later, some passers-by witnessed the man lying unconscious and they immediately shifted him to the Mayo Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. The police have removed the body to the City morgue for an autopsy and are investigating with no arrest made so far.
Died: A 50-year-old prisoner died in Kot Lakhpat Jail under mysterious circumstances on Thursday. Police said that the deceased, Zeeshan Ali, convicted in a drug smuggling case, died at the jail hospital, where he was under medical treatment. The police have removed the body to the morgue for autopsy.
