ISLAMABAD - President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday consulted the Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Khan Raisani and newly elected Senators from Balochistan to build consensus on the top slots of the Senate.

Sources privy to these developments told The Nation it was important meeting in which President held in depth discussion with party colleagues to evolve consensus ahead of making nomination on March 10th about the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Senate.

An official handout issued by the Presidential spokesperson newly elected Senator Farhatullah Babar, the meeting discussed development projects, law and order and political situation in the province. The Senators appreciated the leadership of the party and the government for strengthening democracy in the country and for the various steps being taken for redressal of grievances and removing the sense of deprivation of the people of Balochistan.

The Senators assured that they would dedicate their efforts to espouse the cause of democracy in the country besides safeguarding the rights of the people of Balochistan. The President congratulated the newly elected Senators from Balochistan and expressed the hope that they will work with full devotion for strengthening democracy and democratic institutions in the country by actively participating in the legislative business of the Upper House of the Parliament.

He said that he was confident that the newly elected Senators would play their active role for the welfare and development of their respective areas and also to safeguard the rights of the people of Balochistan. Zardari reiterated commitment of the present government for the uplift of the province and expressed the hope that the mega development projects and other speedy measures under the Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan package will help address grievances of Baloch people and bring Balochistan at par with other provinces in terms of socio- economic development. 

The Chief Minister also briefed the President on the status of law and order situation and development projects in the province.

The newly elected Senators included Ali Madad Jattak, Nawabzada Saifullah Magsi, Sardar Fateh Muhammad Hasni, Rozi Khan Kakar, Muhammad Yousuf Baloch and Sabir Baloch. Faryal Talpur, MNA was also attended the meeting.
