Wapda chief for expediting work on Kachhi Canal

LAHORE - Wapda chairman Syed Raghib Abbas Shah has directed the officials concerned to maximize their efforts to complete the first stage of Kachhi Canal project (Phase 1) in the shortest possible time.
During his visit to Kachhi Canal Project on Saturday, he said that in line with the federal government’s resolve, Wapda was making all out efforts to provide water to Dera Bugti district of Balochistan province by completing the project which would initially irrigate about 55,000 acres of barren land in the area.
The Wapda chairman expressed his concern over the slow pace of work on the project and urged the consultants and the contractors to immediately resolve all issues including that of design, which are hindering the progress on the project.
He said that delay in completion of the project will not be accepted at any cost as Kachhi Canal is of immense importance for development of irrigated agriculture in the country, particularly in Balochistan.
The chairman directed the project authorities to ensure quality of construction work on the project.Earlier, he, during his visit to the project, inspected various sites and witnessed the on-going construction activities. General Manager (Central) Water, Project Director, representatives of the contractors and other officials concerned were also present on the occasion.
