On night of 1st/2nd May, 2001, four Black Hawk helicopters of US Army crossed Pakistan International border and its elite troops stormed a house in Abbotabad. They carried out a surgical operation by helicopters landing in the compound of that house and took just about 40 minutes to complete its task claiming to have killed Osama Bin Laden. The elite US troops carried their high profile target's dead body and went back to their base. Once the operation was successfully completed and their helicoptershad gone from Pakistans air space, the US Admiral Mullen informed our COAS Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kiani and the CIA chief Mr Leon Panneta rang up our spy masterLt Gen Shuja Pasha about the operation. In his commentary, the CIA chief made a mockery of our forces who could not detect this invasion and also mentioned that he did not think it proper to inform our Intelligence agencies fearing the information might leak out and their main target might slip off. It was quite a shock for the entire nation that how come our highly trained Army and ever vigilant PAF could not intercept the night raiders. There was no official statement either from the ministry of foreign affairs or from military leadership for the next three days. The PM just made a statement that it was a great a victory against terrorism and then got busy in selecting ministers from PML(Q) followed by oath taking ceremony. Then next day he left for France with a huge entourage as ifthe attack on Pakistan sovereignty was a non-issue. The President was also perhaps not interested to make any statement or call Defence Security Council. The COAS called Corps Commanders conference on the third day with one point agenda of Abbotabad incident. They released a press statement which was not at all satisfactory. No one is interested whether it was OBL killed or some one else. It was a violation of Pakistani air space and a brazen attack on Pakistan. It was definitely a criminal negligence on the part of our forces who could not react and on the part of our government for nottelling the nation what had happened. Public wants to know the truth. If it was a criminal negligence then people want all the heads who were responsible to roll. The President, the PM who left the country for his luxury trip to France leaving the country in lurch, the Defence, the Interior Minister, the Army Chief and the ISI Chief should all resign. We have more capable and competent people to run thegovernment, the Army and ISI. No one is indispensable and there is no need to give extensions for continuity etc. What if some one dies? The system wouldstill run.But unfortunately, in our country people dont resign for their follies orfailures. After Mumbai attack in India, many heads rolled and some resigned on their own.Public feels thatthey have been humiliatedenough in the world for being most corrupt, for bad governance in the country and nowshameless silenceafter the attack on its sovereignty. The public does not want enquiry commission as itnever brings out the truth. It is just to befool the nation. The public want resignations by all who were sleeping or sold the sovereignty of the country to Americans. MUHAMMAD AZHAR KHWAJA, Lahore, May 7.
