ISLAMABAD - KRL Football Club (FC) played out a 0-0 draw against Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd of Bangladesh in the AFC President Cup 2014 match at Sugathadas Stadium, Colombo.
Talking to The Nation from Colombo, Ali Zaidi said: “Both the teams are favourites of Group A and expected to qualify for the final round. The conditions were not in the favour of KRL FC due to heavy rain in the second half for almost half an hour and ground got soggy and became very heavy.
In the beginning of the match, KRL FC lost a chance when the captain's head hit the pole. After that Zia and Rizwan missed two goal-scoring chances to put their team ahead while KRL FC goalkeeper Saqib displayed a wonderful performance and stopped all the attacks of the opponents.
Sharing his views, KRL FC coach Tariq Lutfi said he was satisfied with his team's performance. “My team in the absence of six best players played well beyond my expectations.”
In the other match, Sri Lanka Air Force FC beat Bhutan FC by 1-0. Goal was scored in the second half. Bhutan played better in the first half but in the second, they could not maintain their rhythm.
KRL FC will play its second match against Bhutan today (Friday) as they have to win both remaining matches to keep their hopes alive to qualify for the final.
