Thanvi to replace Mustafa Kamal in Senate

KARACHIOn a recently vacated seat of Senate of Pakistan, three of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) officers, Waseem Akhtar, Kanwar Khalid Younus and Tanveerul Haq Thanvi had submitted their nomination papers.

The seat was vacated after Syed Mustafa Kamal tendered his resignation as senator. Sources privy to the situation were of the opinion that MQM would approve Thanvi as the final candidate and would easily be elected as Senator. The sources claimed that Waseem Akhtar and Kanwar Khalid Younus had since long been on key positions in the party with various responsibilities and hence Thanvi would be an appropriate one to replace the resigner Senator.

Thanvi hails from a eminent family of religious scholars and keeps a solid background of high moral character, a polite and sane scholastic personality and above all without any tint of any controversiality in any section of life. His becoming a Senator would be a manifest of MQM’s policies for keeping all sections of the society united under its platform. It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan People’s Party had already completed a same replacement by electing Dr Qayyum Soomro after Faisal Raza Abidi had quit as Senator after tendering his resignation.
