Scores of people including women and children staged a protest demonstration in Pasrur city against the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) as it remained failed to rectify the clogged sewerage system of the city.

The system has been lying choked for the last several months adding to the miseries of local people. The perturbed people chanted slogans against the TMA officials and blocked traffic on various intra-city roads in Pasrur by burning tyres.

They said that all the streets and roads in Pasrur city including Rehmanpura, Buhadarpura, Tajpura, Hanifpura, Muslim Colony, Taimur Colony, Inayatpura, Umeedpura, Shah Malook Road, Kutchery Road, Kalaaswala Road, Kutchery Road, Civil Hospital Road and Godown Road were lying inundated with sewerage. However, they added, the TMA officials had turned a blind eye the issue.

The people added that the recent rains had fueled to the fire. They said that the people especially children had been suffering great ordeal while passing through these streets and roads inundated with sewerage and rainwater while going to schools and colleges. They said there no road and street was safe from sewerage water.

The protesting women said that the sewerage system had been clogged and the TMA remained unable to rectify the situation. Pasrur city falls in constituency NA 114 of Zahid Hamid.

When contacted, Assistant Commissioner Tauqeer Ilyas confirmed that the entire sewerage system of Pasrur city had become choked. He said that the early cleanliness and clearance of the clogged system had been ordered and TMA workers were busy rectifying the system on emergency grounds.

Meanwhile, Citizens Welfare Council President Muhammad Pervaiz Bajwa expressed grave concerns over the situation, urging the Gujranwala Division commissioner to take serious notice of the situation in the larger public interest.
