Need to create awareness about water security stressed

Rawalpindi - The speakers addressing a seminar on water security have said that water is the most precious resource on the world and it is need of the hour to create awareness among people to save water.
The seminar was held here at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi on Friday. The seminar was organised by University Institute of Information Technology. Dr Shahbaz Khan, office-in-charge of UNESCO Jakarta, was the chief guest.
Dr Shahbaz Khan while delivering lecture on ‘water security: responses to local, regional, and global challenges with special reference to Asia Pacific region’ said that water security is a major issue on earth and increasing population worldwide, particularly in Pakistan, has caused environment deterioration. Shabaz explained the working of UNESCO and how it was creating change in positive direction. He apprised faculty of the challenges and strategies to ensure water security.
Earlier, Prof Dr Rai Niaz Ahmad, Vice0-Chancellor PMAS-AAUR, in his address stressed on the need for addressing the issues of water resources and action plans for sustainable water management in Pakistan. He was of the view if precautionary measures are not taken immediately, the survival of human beings would be in danger. He said that there is dire need to aware the people about the importance of each and every drop of water.
