Islamabad : The second round of the Panama Papers released on Monday by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) in which 400 names of Pakistanis having offshore companies were revealed.
The owners of the offshore companies include aides and close friends of politicians, renowned businessmen and personalities and families of celebrities.
Tariq Islam, cousin of Benazir Bhutto has also appeared in Panama papers. Sajid Mehmood, son of businessman Seth Abid, also made it into the list of people allegedly having offshore wealth as he was claimed to be the owner of Mossgreen Limited. It should be noted that 30 companies are being owned by the family under the banner of Abid Group.
Ex-managing director of Port Qasim Authority Abdul Sattar Dero along with Zahida Dero, Fawad Sattar Dero and Fahad Sattar Dero are also said to be co-owners of offshore companies. Dero is said to be a close ally of former president Asif Ali Zardari.
Saba Chinoy, mother of Pakistani-oscar winning director Sharmeen-Obaid Chinoy, is also said to be linked with three offshore companies by the names of Bella Holding Group Limited, Fabrics International Services Limited and Belize Group Limited.
Former president of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Shaukat Ahmed is claimed to be the owner of Global Link Properties Incorporation whereas his son Imran Shaukat and daughter-in-law are said to be its shareholders.
Azfar Hassan, son of retired admiral Muzaffar Hassan, also made it to the list of people allegedly having offshore wealth. He is said to be a shareholder of Nabila-Matrix Limited.
Former health minister Naseer Khan has also been accused of having offshore wealth. Iqbal Puri, close friend of Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief and Zardari, has also been named in the list of people with offshore wealth.
Owner of a local newspaper Wamiq Zuberi and his wife Rukhsana, former PPP senator, have also been accused of investing in an offshore company. Tariq Islam, a cousin of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, is said to be the owner of a shell company Link Investments Limited.
The leaked documents belong to law firm, Mossack Fonseca that have been published by Panama Papers. The paper earlier published leaks in April that alleged around 140 leaders of the world of evading taxes and stashing wealth abroad while 200,000 offshore companies were revealed.
