Stevie Wonder performs at Prince tribute concert

LOS ANGELES-Stevie Wonder has performed a touching rendition of Purple Rain at a tribute concert to Prince in Los Angeles. The free gig, which took place at City Hall, also featured appearances by Eric Benet, Aloe Blacc, Faith Evans, and Deitrick Haddon. Benet, who covered Wanna Be Your Lover and Raspberry Beret, praised the musician’s fans, who turned out for the show dressed in purple, a nod to the late legend’s favourite colour. “There’s all this love out there for him,” he told USA Today.–CM

“I know Prince is probably sitting on top of that building right now, we can’t see him, but he’s looking down and he’s like, ‘I’m feeling y’all for this.’” Blacc performed a version of Diamonds and Pearls, which was a fitting tribute as City Hall was where Prince shot most of his music video for that song, according to Los Angeles council member Marqueece Harris-Dawson, who organised the event.
