Suicide attack thwarted in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD - The police shot dead an alleged suicide bomber when he was about to blow himself up at a police picket here at Sector E-11. Police officials deputed at the check post on Margalla Road killed the would-be suicide bomber and recovered a suicide jacket from his possession, which was later defused by bomb disposal squad. The suicide bomber came in a double cabin vehicle and he tried to approach the picket. He was asked to stop but he continued advancing towards the check post chanting Allah-o-Akbar. My colleague opened fire at the attacker killing him on the spot, police official deputed at the picket told. Later talking to media persons, Inspector General of Police Syed Kaleem Imam said, There were almost three miscreants in the vehicle. One was killed while two others fled after dropping their associate near the picket, the IGP added. He said, No doubt police have foiled a suicide attack and all concerned police officials would be rewarded, as they have done a great job, Imam said. He said Eight to 10 kilogram explosive material was in suicide jacket, which had been defused successfully. The suicide bomber was aged between 19 to 21 years and later his body was shifted to PIMS.
