LAHORE – The FFC Energy Limited (FFCEL) has developed Pakistan’s first 50-Megawatt wind power project at Jhimpir, District Thatta, in Sindh. Established with an investment of $134 million, the grid interconnection facilities for this project were energised on October 30, whereby the wind farm is now connected with the national grid.
The project had been established with the coordinated efforts of CPPA/NTDC, HESCO and FFCEL.
Project Director Brig (Retd) Tariq Izaz said, “All 33 individual WTGs and ultimately the commissioning of the whole wind farm commenced from November 7 and FFCEL expects to begin commercial operations by mid December. However, FFCEL will endeavour for early completion of WTG commissioning activities, ahead of above schedule, by deploying more resources, wherever possible.”
Since its inception in 2009, this project has shown rapid progress. Erection of all 33 Wind Turbine Generators was successfully completed by July 2012. By Mid August, all civil, mechanical and electrical works related to grid interconnection facility, HV switchyard, MV substation and MV collection system were completed.
In August 2012, the 132 KV Switchyard pre-commissioning was completed and was commissioned in October 2012. Subsequently on 1st November, 2012 a 22KV substation got commissioned. Multiple commissioning teams, foreign and local, are present at site to complete all remaining wind farm commissioning activities.
Recognising the national importance of FFCEL Wind Power Project (WPP), all stakeholder parties have focused their energies to complete this signature project of Pakistan, at the earliest possible date.
