LAHORE - Jamaat-i-Islami Amir Syed Munawar Hasan on Thursday said had the armed forces and other constitutional institutions remained within their limits, and served the nation, the country would not have been facing the current situation.

In a statement, he said, the institutions were under the control of mafias and the stories of their corruption were the talk of the town. “The country suffered from lawlessness and unrest and the masses were disappointed. The feudal lords and capitalists had usurped the rights of the masses. People committing minor crimes were behind the bars while those involved in major crimes moved about freely.”

Hasan said under these circumstances, the Army Chief’s suggestion to function within their limits, although pertinent, raised question whether all crimes were not being committed under the nose of the armed forces.  He  said the judicial institutions were never allowed to function freely as dictatorial rulers tried to curb the judiciary.
