RAWALPINDI - Pakistan Army XI whitewashed British Army team by scoring 41 runs win in the final Twenty20 match here at Army cricket ground on Thursday/
Pakistan won the T/20 series 2-0 and one-off one-day by 125 runs. Put into bat first, Pakistan posted 179 run for the loss of 3 wickets. Skipper Babar Nawaz made 67 runs with 6 boundaries, Shahid Khan (36) and Sanaullah scored unbeaten 27-ball 60 with 8 fours and one six.
Boynton, Kyangungu and Onyuro chipped got one wicket each. British Army started their runs chase at a positive style but were bundled out for 138 runs in 19.4 overs. Sherwin Govender made superb 55 with four boundaries and 3 sixes. Daniel Webb (23) also batted well. Nasar Iqbal got 4 for 16 from Army.
Lt Gen Raheel Sharif, HI (M) IGT&E was the chief guest while British High Commissioner Adam Thomson, PCB Chairman Ch Zaka Ashraf, Director Army Sports Brig Iqtidar Naseer, deputy director Col Qaiser Mustafa, director media Col Waseem Janjua, Col Mohsin Ali, British embassy officials, dignitaries and a capacity crowd were also present on the occasion.
Chief guest distributed prizes among players; Sherwin Govender was adjusted man of the match. Nasar Iqbal received the best bowler trophy for taking 8 wickets in the series. Pakistan Army skipper Major Babar Nawaz earned best batsman and man of the series awards.
It is to worth mentioning here that Army Cricket ground was filled to capacity after a gap of almost two decades amid tight security as general public was not allowed to enter the ground, but the school kids, army athletes and families of armed forces should be given credit to come in quite a numbers and fill the empty seats.
