ISLAMABAD – The Senate Standing Committee on Water and Power Thursday ordered issuance of arrest warrants for the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) chief executive officer (CEO).According to a private television channel, an important meeting of the standing committee, headed by Senator Zahid Khan, was held in Islamabad to analyse the production capacity and to determine the output produced by the KESC, to ascertain the per unit production cost to the KESC and to obtain the details of the power supplied to the KESC by the Wapda (Water and Power Development Authority).Despite the committee’s invitation, KESC CEO Tabish Gohar was not present at Wednesday’s meeting over which the committee ordered the issuance of arrest warrants for him.Chairman of the committee, Senator Zahid Khan said that the arrest warrants for Tabish Gohar had been issued in accordance with the constitution. He directed the authorities to produce Gohar before the committee on December 3. Water and Power Secretary Nargis Sethi said the KESC CEO should have appeared before the standing committee of the Senate.The committee also summoned a report from the Water and Power Ministry over dismissal of contract officers. The committee had directed the ministry to dismiss contract officers two months ago.
