Health adviser warns against polio inertia

LAHORE - Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister on Health Kh Salman Rafiq has warned that those health officers, who are not achieving required results of anti-polio campaign, will be removed from their posts.
Chairing a meeting to review prevailing situation and micro-planning for eradication of polio at Civil Secretariat on Saturday, Salman directed the authorities to immediately convene a meeting of all EDOs Health for finalising strategy to curb the menace.
DG Health Dr Zahid Pervaiz, Additional Secretary Health (Tech) Dr Salman Shahid, Director Health (EPI) Dr Munir Ahmad, Provincial Chief of WHO Dr Abdul Islam, representative of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Dr Aslam Ch, Dr Rana Mushtaq, Ivon of Unicef and Saeed Shamsi of Rotary Club attended the meeting. The participants reviewed anti-polio campaigns launched in last two years and proposed steps for removing gaps in micro-planning.
 Salman directed inclusion of public representatives and notables of areas in the process of planning and operation at union council level. He said that strict monitoring and accountability policy for elimination of polio had been started at every level. He also directed measures for removing gaps in micro-planning.
The adviser said that the Polio Emergency Action Plan would be implemented strictly in Punjab. He added that EDOs Health would be answerable about elimination of polio in their respective districts.
