Iqbal Day holiday cancellation

Islamabad - Islamabad Bar Council has announced to observe strike on November 9 against cancellation of Iqbal Day holiday by the government.
In this regard, the legal fraternity of the federal capital has expressed its concern over cancellation of Iqbal day holiday by the government and demanded of the government to restore the holiday. Talking to The Nation, Media Coordinator and Vice President of IBC Chaudhary Khalid Advocate said the lawyers have decided in the meeting to observe token strike on Monday (today) and no lawyer would appear before the court to take part in courts’ proceedings. He said that the IBC condemned this act of the federal government regarding withdrawal of annual holiday on Iqbal Day saying that Allama Iqbal is national hero who gave concept of an Islamic state in the sub-continent.
Chaudhary Khalid termed the withdrawal of holiday on the birth anniversary of thinker of Pakistan as unholy step of government. He said that Iqbal Day does not mean mere a holiday rather it provides an opportunity to the nation to be united and remember the services of Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
The bar representative was of the view, “We should not forget our national heroes and one day the rulers would also cancel Qaid-e-Azam Day.”
