KARACHI - The excise police arrested two people and seized at least 117 bottles of liquor from them on Tuesday. According to the Excise and Taxation Department spokesperson, Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla has directed the officials to ensure a complete ban on sale and purchase of liquor in line with the orders of the Sindh High Court.

A team of the Excise and Taxation Department led by Malir ETO Kalimullah Wasan stopped a jeep during snap checking at Northern Bypass Road and found 60 bottles of beer and 48 bottles of whisky. The team impounded the jeep and arrested the occupants who were later identified as Siddique and Subash. They were bringing liquor from Hub. A case has been registered against them. Further investigation is under way.

In a related development, the provincial excise and taxation minister has directed the officials to intensify snap checking and ensure a complete ban on sale and purchase of liquor.

He has also warned lax officials of strict action.
