MARDAN -  Several farmers’ organisations of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday rejected that rate of sugarcane crops fixed by the sugar mill owners and also strongly criticised the provincial government for cheating the farmers on the name of wheat seeds supply.

Meeting was organised by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Kisan Board. While Addressing to the meeting, the speakers said that formers of the province are facing a lot of problems, while the government has closed its eyes on the issues of farmers. “We rejected the survey conducted by the Pakistan Tobacco Board with the collaboration of tobacco companies about the cost of production of tobacco and declared it a conspiracy against the tobacco crops,” they said unanimously. “We rejected the three members selected in the tobacco board on the farmer’s seat because they are agents of tobacco companies,” they added. The membership of these three members should be immediately canceled and the real farmer’s should be selected in the tobacco board, they demanded.

“Government should provide wheat seeds on discounted price to the farmers and also return the billion rupees collected from the farmers on the name of membership fee”, they added. The farmer’s representatives also demanded the government to immediately start the sugar mills of the province and fixed 250 per kg rate of sugarcane crops.

They said, “We rejected the current rate of sugarcane, on this issue the meeting of PCB should be immediately called.” “We will stage protest outside the provincial assembly against the conspiracies of Pakistan Tobacco Board and tobacco companies. The representatives said that they will announce the protest date on November 15. Anjuman-e-Khastkaran (AK) President Haleem Khan Mayar, Awan-e-Zarat representative Zahir Khan, Charsadda Kisan Board member Haji Abdul Akbar Khan, Takhatbhai Anjuman-e-Khastkarn representative Qamar Zaman advocate, Nowshera Model Farm Service President Farman Khan, Sarhad Chamber of Agriculture representative Zahir Shah were present on the occasion.
