TALAGANG : At least 24 people lost their lives and more than 65 sustained injuries as a passenger bus going to Raiwind from Kohat plunged into a ditch near Dhok Pathan of Talagang on late Wednesday.

According to rescue teams, about 90 passengers were aboard the bus. At least 41 of the injured were rushed to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Talagang for medical treatment and 12 critically injured shifted to a Rawalpindi hospital. The medical staff feared there may be more deaths. The bus fell from the height of 150 feet, the rescue sources said. The dead bodies were rushed to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Talagang for autopsy.

Earlier in May, at least four schoolchildren and a driver were killed and eight children critically injured when a speeding oil tanker crushed a school van in Multan.

On August 3, two schoolgirls died and seven others were injured when a school bus carrying children met with an accident on Mianwali-Talagang Road, rescue and hospital sources said. One of the children died on the spot, while another schoolgirl succumbed to her injuries later in the hospital. Among other injured were three children, two women and a man. The injured were taken to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Talagang, rescue sources stated.
