SIALKOT-All arrangements have been finalised to celebrate the 140th birthday of poet of the East Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal with traditional zeal, fervour and enthusiasm at Iqbal Manzil, the birthplace of Allama Iqbal , here on Thursday.

As many as 158 years old Iqbal Manzil and Allama Iqbal Chowk Sialkot have been illuminated by the Sialkot Municipal Corporation with colourful lights, buntings and banners.

The day will dawn with special prayers in the mosques for the peace, national integrity, prosperity and development.

Iqbal Manzil’s caretaker Syed Riaz Hussain Naqvi informed that the main birthday cake-cutting ceremony would be held at Iqbal Manzil, which will be participated in by people from all walks of life to pay homage to the great poet, philosopher Dr Allama Iqbal .

An exhibition of books on Iqbaliyat, rare personal use articles, photos of Allama Iqbal and his family would be held at Iqbal Manzil Sialkot here.

A large number of the people including students and their teachers from different schools and colleges visited Iqbal Manzil on Wednesday. The Kalaam-e-Iqbal and speech contests were held at Iqbal Manzil.

People will also visit the graves of the Allama Iqbal’s parents and other family members at Imam Sahib Graveyard Sialkot to lay floral wreaths there besides offering Fateha there.

Meanwhile, Sialkot Deputy Commissioner Dr Farrukh Naveed visited Iqbal Manzil and paid homage to Dr Allama Iqbal , the son of the soil of Sialkot.

A large number of people from all walks of life will participate in Iqbal day rally to be taken out in Sialkot under the auspices of Sialkot Municipal Corporation, said Mayor of Sialkot Ch Tauheed Akhtar.

AJK pays homage to poet-philosopher

Mirpur (AJK) - Jammu Kashmir people living at either side of the Line of Control and rest of the world have chalked out elaborated programs to celebrate birth anniversary of the poet of the East Allama Dr Muhammad Iqbal on Thursday (today) with the renewal of the pledge to work shoulder to shoulder with Pakistani brethren to make the country a true forward-looking Muslim welfare and developed state in line with thoughts of the great poet philosopher.

Despite rumours kept on making rounds about restoration of gazetted holiday, there will be no holiday across the country including AJK on the occasion.

The day will dawn with special prayers in the mosques for the solidarity, integrity and prosperity of Pakistan and for the freedom of all the Muslim homelands including occupied Jammu & Kashmir and Palestine.

Various cultural, political and social organisations have chalked out special programs in various parts of the liberated territory to highlight services rendered by the great visionary of 20th century.

People from various parts of AJK including Mirpur will visit the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal in Lahore to lay floral wreath to pay homage to Poet of the East on behalf of the people of Jammu & Kashmir besides to offering Fateha for the departed soul and pray for prosperity and solidarity of the country.

Special programmes will be arranged in various parts of AJK including Mirpur division to pay homage to the vision of Dr Muhammad Iqbal in addition to highlighting his life and services for an ideological Muslim state in this part of the world. Similar functions and seminars are also scheduled to be held the Indian held Kashmir despite restrictions on the part of the Indian occupational forces and puppet administration of the occupied state.

All the three radio stations of Azad Jammu Kashmir including Mirpur, Muzaffarabad and Tararkheil and AJK TV will air special programmes with special emphasis on life and services of the poet-philosopher.

Local newspapers will also bring out special supplements on this occasion.

Several organizations, delegations and citizens will visit the ‘Mazar-e-Iqbal’ in Lahore to pay rich tributes and offer Fateh for the departed soul.
