Teen girl dies ‘mysteriously’

A teen girl died mysteriously at her house in Naseerabad police precincts on Wednesday.  The deceased was identified by police as Sughra, a resident of Model Colony. The woman was working at a nearby plaza. According to her family, Sughra’s condition deteriorated soon after she consumed some poisonous pills. She was rushed to Services Hospital, where she died.  The body was moved to t morgue for autopsy. The police were investigating the death.  Meanwhile, The Factory Area police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested two men who were wanted to the police in several auto-theft cases. –Staff Reporter

 

UAE president gifts steel boats bridge

United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan gifted steel boats bridge for Rojhan city near Rahim Yar Khan. According to a press release Wednesday evening, the gifted bridge would be installed near Bangla Ichha during winter when the water level of river goes down.  It stated that the bridge had reduced distance of approximately 135 kilometers from Rojhan to Rahim Yar Khan by half, thus making it 75 kilometer only. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan permanently resolved the issue of river Indus crossing for the people of the area by donating the bridge, it further said. It stated that the UAE President had also donated a permanent bridge at Kachha Choan which was 15 kilometers upstream of present Steel boats Bridge  at Bangla Ichha.  The people of the area had called it a generous gesture and great step towards development and progress of the local people, it added. –Staff Reporter –Staff Reporter

 

Lesco bills to land on mobile inbox

Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) has decided to send the meter reading to electricity consumers through text message on mobile. This decision has been taken to provide more convenient and better service to consumers, said the Chief Executive Lesco Syed Wajid Ali Kazmi while addressing a departmental meeting here yesterday. The meeting also reviewed performance of all Lesco circles. Addressing the meeting, the Lesco chief said mobile number of all consumers falling in batch one of the month instant, will be collected so that they could get the meter reading at their respective house and other site soon after the meter reader had got the same. Syed Kazmi warned the officers of strict action against overbilling. He also appealed to the consumers to get their cell numbers registered with the Lesco authorities. He also directed the revenue officers to ensure correct meter reading along with the picture of the meter before putting the bill to printing. He also directed the department concerned to expedite drive against the electricity theft. Besides others the meeting was attended by  Director Operation Muhammad Ali Dogar, GM Technical, Ch Muhammad Anwar, Chief Engineer Development, Khalid Saeed, Chief Engineer T&G Muhammad Nasir, Chief Engineer Implementation, Khalid Mahmood Nasir, SEs of all circles, and ROs. –Staff Reporter

 

Clash of chairmen

Sloganeering and verbal clashes between the opposition and treasury resulted in adjournment of session of Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) on Wednesday.  In the absence of Lord Mayor Mubashar Javed, the opposition started protest for not giving time to speak.  Led by Afeef Siddiqui, opposition members staged a sit in to press for the demand of equal funds. The House was presenting scenes of a fish market due to sloganeering from both sides of the political divide. Out of 42 resolutions on agenda, the House could only pass six due to chaos and sloganeering.  Deputy Mayor Mian Muhammad Tariq adjourned the session for an indefinite period. –Staff Reporter
