When I was in class III, there was no electricity in our house. I would use a lamp while studying at night. In 1947, when Pakistan got freedom, there was no electricity in most of the country and children used to study in the light of candles. Now in 2008, I see the daughter of my neighbour, a student of class IV, studying in lamplight because of loadshedding. Pakistani children have been brought to the same point we were 60 years ago. -YUMNA HASSAN, Karachi, via e-mail, October 7.
