The nation is marking 8th October as anniversary of the tragedy that took place three years back in NWFP & Azad Kashmir. On that day, we lost tens of thousands of our citizens while an earthquake decimated whole cities. Now three years after, the affected people of Azad Kashmir and NWFP are recovering from their trauma. It is the prime duty of governmental and non-governmental agencies to continue their efforts for rehabilitation of even the last of affectee in their designated area. The financial assistance given to them for house building should be increased from Rs 150,000 to at least Rs 300,000 in line with the present price hike of building material and high rate of general inflation. Imagine trying to build even a two-room house in this day and age in just Rs 150, 000? Our leaders should be a little more realistic with their dole. Earthquake affectees are not demanding millions of rupees. They just want a nominal increase. -SYED MUZAMMIL HUSSAIN, Rawalpindi, via e-mail, September 30.
