RAWALPINDI - The administration of District Headquarters Hospital, Raja Bazaar, is in hot waters these days, as a scam of illegal appointments of three fake doctors and a nurse has been unearthed in the hospital. After Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has expressed firm resolve to take strict action in the light of inquiry report, the bureaucracy in the provincial Health Ministry has come into action to save the wings of the big wigs in the health department, who played a vital role in inducting three fake doctors and a nurse even on the key posts in the DHQ Hospital, sources revealed to TheNation here on Thursday. The bureaucracy is also making great efforts to sabotage the findings of the inquiry report, submitted by the committee constituted by Punjab Health Secretary Anwar A Khan to probe the scandal of DHQ, before reaching it to the table of the Punjab Chief Minister, sources further disclosed. The committee is likely to submitted the report about the scam of illegal appointments of three fake doctors and a nurse in the DHQ Hospital today (Friday). The sources present in the meeting of the committee, probing the scam confided to this scribe that it was revealed in the meeting that one of three brothers, Syed Alauddin, who was appointed as Medical Officer (MO) in ENT Department of the DHQ through an office order No 12375 dated 15/9/2009, had already applied for the course of dispenser in 2006, but he was rejected due to his bogus degree of SSC, which was scrutinized by Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Rawalpindi, thorough its official letter No OSR-1437/07 dated 18-5-2007. It was further disclosed that later the aforementioned person had applied in DHQ to get a job of an observer on February 2, 2008 through an application showing himself a second year student of Kabul Medical University (Afghanistan). The MS, Dr Khalid Iqbal Malil had given him job through an office order No 6909 dated 4/8/2008 reads as Syed Alauddin, son of Syed Fazal Wahid is hereby allowed as attachment observership in the Department of Emergency on honourary basis for the period of six months with effect from August 4, 2008 to February 3, 2009. The committee members expressed their grief concern over the negligence of MS Dr Khalid that why he, despite knowing the history of the person, had appointed him as MO in the ENT Ward. The committee members were also astonished that how a student, who passed SSC examination in 2004, could get medical degree in just four years, the sources further told. It was also revealed that the administration of DHQ Hospital gave the job of MO, DMS (Evening COD) to Syed Salah-ud-Din, another brother of Syed Alauddin without obtaining any medical or other educational documents from him, the sources added. The third brother, Syed Naseeruddin was appointed as MO Neurosurgical Department by the administration. The three brothers were appointed in DHQ as regular employees following the government of the Punjab Health Department letter No S.O (WMO) 1/1-2009 Missing (4) dated 27/4/2009 and 14/9/2009. The sources also told this scribe that how the scam of Raffat Shaheen, daughter of Umer Din, who was working in the hospital as Charge Nurse till May 29, 2009, was later made lady doctor after marrying with Head Clerk of the hospital Malik Irfan, was uncovered before the inquiry committee, The inquiry committee came to know that she had a bogus medical degree of Kabul Medical University (Afghanistan), which she was awarded on February 6, 1386, sources said. This illegal move of bureaucracy caused panic among senior and junior doctors of the hospital as well as people of the city. The senior doctors of hospital, on request of anonymity, said that they would not hesitate to approach the Supreme Court of Pakistan for justice, if Punjab government showed any mercy towards the responsible officials who also played havoc with human lives.
