MAQSOOD TIRMIZI ISLAMABAD - Pakistani investigation team, probing into the attack on Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore, has been sent to Sri Lanka as there were reports that some extremist elements of Sri Lanka were involved in the attack. We have sent an investigation team to Sri Lanka to investigate the reports that some elements from Sri Lanka were behind the attack on cricket team in Lahore, Interior Minister Rehman Malik told TheNation. Meanwhile, sources in the Interior Ministry informed that the team comprised 4 officials of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Police high ups. He also informed that the Interior Ministry had issued a notification naming Director FIA Karachi Mir Zubair for heading the team. Mir Zubair nowadays is out of the country but there are chances that he will join other officials in Sri Lanka to probe the matter, source told. He added that Sri Lankan government had reportedly collected some evidences regarding Lahore attack and had also handed these over to Pakistani authorities due to which the team was sent to Sri Lanka. It merits mention here that the Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani had also said that Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse had informed him that the attackers were funded from Sri Lanka. After that the Prime Minister ordered the concerned ministry to constitute a team to coordinate with Sri Lanka. The investigation team would reportedly stay in Sri Lanka for two weeks and during their stay the team would meet the relevant officials of the Sri Lankan security and law enforcement agencies, sources informed. He added that both Pakistani and Srilankan official might exchange their findings and information while a detailed briefing to Sri Lankan high ups was also expected from Pakistani side. Interior Minister Rehman Malik is also expected to visit Sri Lanka and meet the Sri Lankan President along with the investigation team probing into gory incident, sources informed. It is pertinent to remember that the Sri Lankan cricket team was attacked in the provincial capital of Punjab, Lahore in March 2009 claiming the lives of policemen while some cricketers also sustained bullet injuries. However, the assailants succeeded in fleeing from the scene.
