Aamir off to Malaysia to appear in Royal Lake Open

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan No 1 squash player Aamir Atlas Khan Tuesday left for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to participate in the $15,000 Royal Lake Open 2013 Squash Championship.
Aamir is given direct entry into the main round where he will take on local lad Elvinn Keo in the first round match today (Wednesday). Although Aamir had made tall claims regarding his fitness and described his training with father Atlas Khan as exceptional, but it would be a very difficult event for the current Asian individual squash champion, despite the fact that he is facing a relatively easier opponent in the first round.
Aamir should have responded to Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF)’s offer of training with head coach here at the Mushaf Ali Mir Complex, to regain his much-needed fitness for this event, but despite promising of attending the camp, Aamir preferred to be rebel. He must remember what has happened to him in the last two PSA events held in Pakistan, where he was trained privately and could not even make it to the finals in both the events. Instead of showing attitude to the federation and head coach Jamshed Gul, who inspired him to Asia title, he should have realised his past mistakes and joined the camp.
Now the ball is in the federation’s court, they must wait and see what Aamir does in the Royal Lake Open. If he gives satisfactory performance then he should be given another chance, but if he fails once again, then federation must decide about the future course of action. It is not the duty of player to dictate terms to the federation but it the federation which decides in the best interest of the game and players.
