A 23-year-old motorcyclist was shot dead allegedly by the private security guards of the son of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in Defence Housing Authority late Wednesday.

Police sources said that the bodyguards of Gilani’s son opened fire on the motorcyclist when his two-wheeler hit the vehicle of the influential politician.

The youth, later identified as Muhammad Tahir, died on the spot while the culprits fled the crime scene on their jeeps.

A good number of relatives of the deceased gathered at Ghazi Chowk and staged strong protest demonstration against the killing. They said that the youth was on his way to distribute sacrificial meat among the relatives when he was targeted by the guards of the politician. The protesters blocked the road by putting the dead body at the crossing, creating traffic mess in the locality.

They also chanted slogans and demanded registration of a murder case against the son of former premiere. The police officers were at the crime scene till filing of this report.
