 Former President Pakistan Orthopaedic Association and Principal, King Edward Medical College, Prof Dr Naseer Mahmood Akhtar was decorated with prestigious “SAARC Distinguished Orthopaedic Service Award in Agra, India on Tuesday.

Talking to APP, his son Dr.Rizwan Naseer, Director General Emergency Services Punjab said the award was conferred at the inaugural ceremony of 8th Biennial Conference of Orthopaedic Association of SAARC Countries.

This award is given once in two years to an eminent orthopaedic surgeon for his distinguished orthopaedic services to the community in the SAARC region.

It may be further added that Prof Naseer is known as the father of modern Orthopaedic Surgery in Pakistan and most of the Orthopaedic Surgeon working in Northern Pakistan are his students.

He established the first Orthopaedic Surgery Department at Nishter Medical College and King Edward Medical College, Mayo Hospital, Lahore. He also established the first Orthopaedic Workshop for Disabled and School of Physiotherapy at Mayo Hospital in Pakistan.
