PDMA leads walk on earthquake awareness

LAHORE - Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) arranged an awareness walk on Thursday in the memory of devastations due to earthquake of October 8, 2005 and those died in the tragedy.
PDMA Director General Jawad Akram, officials of Rescue 1122, Civil Defense and a large number of students and citizens participated in the walk from Nasir Bagh to Town Hall.
Addressing the rally, Jawad Akram said the PDMA has been harmonised with modern demands for coping with natural calamities and minimising the loss of lives and property. “It is need of the hour that people should remain prepared to cope with any emergent situation and natural disaster so that loss of lives and property could be minimised.”
“People should cooperate with the concerned departments in order to cope with natural calamities,” the DG said while stressing upon the need to create awareness among children about natural calamities.
He added the Education Department will also start classes at Phd level regarding disaster management. A resolution was also passed in this regard.
Earlier, siren was also resounded before the walk. One minute silence was observed and prayers were offered for the earthquake victims.
