Poultry industry celebrates World Egg Day today

LAHORE - The World Egg Day is celebrated every year on the second Friday in October. On World Egg Day, events are held across the world celebrating the importance of egg in human diet. Like in the past, Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) is also celebrating this year’s World Egg Day on Friday (today) by organising seminars at different places to make the general public aware of the nutritional value of eggs and its importance for human health. The newly-elected chairman of PPA North Zone
Rai Mansab Ali Kharl, while addressing a press conference here at Lahore Press Club, said that the first World Egg Day was celebrated in 1996 and since then we have seen a variety of wonderful events taking place internationally, with people enjoying and celebrating the wonderful versatility of the egg.
He said that eggs have a vital role to play in feeding people around the world, in both developed and developing countries. The eggs have excellent and affordable source of high quality protein, with the potential to feed the world.
PPA former chairman Abdul Basit, Raza Khursand and secretary general Javed Bukhari also attended the briefing.
Rai Mansab Ali Kharl informed that poultry sector is one of the most organized branches of the agro-based sector of Pakistan. Poultry Sector has been serving the nation since 1962 and providing affordable poultry products to the masses to fulfill the requirements of animal protein. Poultry at present contributes 40% of the total meat consumption and generates employment and income for about fifteen hundred thousand people. It is also pertinent to mention here that poultry is the cheapest available meat protein source for our masses and as such, is an effective check upon the spiraling animal protein prices also. We are producing 10,000 Million table eggs. In our Country per capita consumption is 65-70 eggs annually. Whereas as per standard requirement, 300 eggs are required to be consumed by each person. Therefore we are already consuming less protein as per required standards. Poultry sector generates employment and provides source of income to more than 1.5 Million people of Pakistan.
Mr. Chairman informed that we are producing 10,000 Million table eggs annually and the annual egg consumption in Pakistan is 65- 70 eggs per person per annum. He concluded that efforts should be made to make people cognizant of the above facts to increase egg consumption and to ensure the good health of our people since only a healthy generation can take a country to the pinnacle of progress and prosperity.
