ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid yesterday blamed Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf for being recipient of funds given by Jewish-run and Hindus-owned firms.
The minister said law of the land forbids political parties from receiving foreign funds and questioned the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for awarding symbol to a party even when it was revealed that PTI has received foreign money.
Addressing a news conference, he said PTI spent millions of rupees on its rallies and election campaign in general election with the help of anti-Pakistan elements and it only paid Rs250 million to DJ Butt for speakers and sound systems of its political gathering in different cities.
The minister said that all parties were required to submit their accounts in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), including sources of their funds under Political Parties Act. He raised question that how PTI was allotted party symbol in the last general elections despite being in violation of the Political Parties Act.
He mentioned that ECP accepted the application of a pioneer member of PTI Akbar Babar after thirteen months that PTI leaders were raised funds for the party in the United States and these funds used for PTI sit-ins in red zone of federal capital, protests and destabilisation of the elected government in Pakistan.
He said that Chinese President delayed his visit to Pakistan due to PTI anti-government’s sit-in as Imran Khan wanted to stop this visit. He asked the ECP to why it ignored the petition of Akbar Babar for the last several months.
Rashid said the ECP was trying to conceal PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s crime of taking funds from foreigners which he used for political purposes. “PML-N has a documentary proof of Imran Khan’s signatures acknowledging receipt of funds,” he added.
The minister said his claims were based on documentary proof obtained from a US department and waved the documents which he held in hands. He said this file contains names of all the Hindus, Jews and Sikhs firms which gave their donations to the PTI before general election.
Rashid said Imran Khan has hidden firms and donations details from the ECP, saying he used that fund for his protest and sit-ins.
He said PTI chief will have to come up with a reply for the rigging he committed to undermine the cause of democracy. Imran Khan should focus on the development of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and provide better facilities to the people who casted their vote for PTI, he added.
