LAHORE - Highlighting successes of the government policies, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif yesterday said national economy is improving with every passing day, heralding a bright and prosper future of the country.

Chairing a high level meeting on energy and other development projects at Governor’s House here, he said the country has far better economic condition by virtue of the successful policies of the government today than it was three years ago when the PML-N took over.

“National economy has been put on the right track whereof country is fast getting economic stability, safety and security today which were missing three years back,” the prime minister remarked.

The meeting was participated by Governor Malik Rafiq Rajwana, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Water and Power Minister Khawaja Asif, Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir, renowned businessmen and officials of the departments concerned.

Nawaz Sharif said the government had introduced fundamental reforms which were necessary to attract more investment and smoothen the business system to ultimately create more employment opportunities. He said in consultation with the business community, the government would facilitate the investors. He emphasised the need to work harder for country’s progress and prosperity.

The prime minister emphasising the importance of peace for a thriving economy said, with a commitment to attain peace and purge the country of the scourge of terrorism for good, Zarb-e-Azb was going on successfully.

He told the participants that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was a huge project ushering in prosperity in the country. “Of $46 billion Chinese investment, $35 billion are being spent exclusively on power projects which after completion, will not only help overcome loadshedding but also cut down cost of electricity to the benefit of the people,” he added.

Nawaz said work on various development projects was going on fast track under CPEC in Balochistan, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. As part of CPEC, he said, Gwadar seaport and airport are also being developed in Balochistan which all harbinger a very bright future of Pakistan.

He said CPEC project would yield huge economic benefits to Pakistan as well as the whole region. He said the highly valuable CPEC would not only prove an economic game changer but also lead to elimination of extremism, poverty and unemployment in the region.

The PM said in view of the vitality of this mega project he was personally monitoring its progress. He said no other country made such a heavy investment which China has done in Pakistan.

Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif briefed the prime minister on the measures taken by Punjab government towards implementation of the energy projects on fast-track and strategy adopted in this regard.

The businessmen informed the PM about the problems they were facing and they were assured of early redress by the prime minister. The business people reposed full confidence in the steps being taken by the government for creating business opportunities in Pakistan. They viewed the government policies towards reforming business and trade the best ever and most conducive to the uplift of national economy.

NAWAZ, RAJWANA HOLD TALKS

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Governor Rafiq Rajwana yesterday held a meeting at the Governor House and discussed overall situation in the country, especially development projects in South Punjab, according to a handout.

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Federal Minister Khawaja Asif were also present on this occasion.
