MARDAN -  The apex committee Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa declared Ameer Mohammad Khan Media colony a security risk for the high security prison of Mardan and directed the district administration to stop construction work on Ameer Mohammad Khan media colony, sources told the Nation.

It is to be noted that members of Mardan press club in the former ANP-led provincial government demanded media colony at Mardan. Later on former Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti announced media colony for the members of Mardan press club at Mohabatabad near the high security prison Mardan.

The previous government has done a lot of developmental work in the colony and constructed children park, mosque, community center and also constructed the roads and provided other facilities to the media colony.

Some of the owners of the plots have started work on their plots to construct houses. Some of the owners already completed their house and shifted to their houses in the media colony.

However, Sources added that a letter was issued to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mardan, Imran Hamid Sheikh, Office of Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Home and Tribal Affairs department.

Sources added that it is stated in the letter that the Apex Committee Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the meeting held on 3rd September 2016 decided that no building in the radius of 500 meters of high security prison and no high rise building in the radius of 200 meters will be constructed.

Sources added that it is also written in the letter that construction work would be stopped in the Ameer Mohammad Khan media colony immediately.  This decision of Apex committee created anxiety among the member of Mardan press club. The office-bearers of the press club arranged several meetings with the local administration in this connection, but the local administration told them they cannot violate the Apex committee decision and the letter of Home and Tribal Affairs department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Members of Mardan press club demanded the Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and other members of Apex committee that they should take step in this connection and provide relief to the members of Mardan press club because majority of the members spent a lot of money on construction in their plots in the media colony.
