KHANEWAL-The mourning procession was taken out here amid tight security on Saturday. It was taken out from Markazi Imambargah block 11 by the mourners and reached Purana peacefully after passing through its traditional routes.

Despite looming security threats, a large number of people including women and children participated in the procession. The mourners offered Zuhrain prayers on main van stand at T Chowk. The procession was provided with full security by the police and law-enforcement agencies to avoid any unwanted incident.

There were three-layer security arrangements; everyone had to be frisked at three steps before entering the main procession. Control room has been set up in DPO office for strict monitoring through CCTV cameras, installed along the route of the procession.

As many as 200 policemen, 70 volunteers and 30 Razakars performed the security duty. Before the procession began, the Multan RPO, Commissioner, DPO Jahanzaib Nazeer along and DCO Zaid Bin Maqsood visited the route.

Meanwhile, all the bazaars and shops remained close. Organiser Babar Ali said, “Although the security measures taken by the government create problems for the mourners, these are for our safety so we are satisfied.”
