MWM protests sectarian killings

KARACHI - Majlise Wahdate Muslimeen (MWM) on Saturday staged a demonstration over Shia-Muslims target killing in Karachi and blocked Main MA Jinnah Road for hours.

According to details, number of activists of MWM participated in the protest demonstration at Numaish Chowrangi.

The participants were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans "Stop killing of innocent people", "Zero tolerance against extremism," "Want peace" and others.

On the occasion heavy contingent of police was deployed to avert any untoward incident.

However, protest ended peacefully. The protesters urged the government to take measures to control target killings of innocent people in the country. “Otherwise we will prolong our protest,” they warned.

They also expressed solidarity with the heirs of those killed in sectarian attacks and vowed not to bow down to the terrorists.

Addressing the demo, MWM leaders said that target killing of Shia-Muslims in Friday’s incident had placed a question mark over the performance of the law-enforcement agencies.

Terming the incident clear proof of government’s incompetence, they said that if the rulers had implemented the National Action Plan (NAP) in true sprit, then such incidents would not have occurred.

They further demanded the rulers to take strict action against the terrorists and their facilitators while the culprits involved in the target killing should be brought to justice.

MWM leaders warned that party would expand its protest to every nook and corner of Pakistan if the killings of Shia-Muslims were not halted forthwith.
