Rawalpindi - Police along with Pakistan Rangers yesterday conducted a flag march in the city to show their preparedness to ensure peace and tranquillity in the city during Muharram-ul-Haram.

The flag march was carried out on the orders of City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi and was supervised by SSP (Operations) Irfan Tariq. SDPOs, SHOs, Elite Force Commandoes, Muhafiz Force, and City Traffic Police also took part in the march.

The flag march began from Police Line number 1 and culminated at its starting point passing through the route of 7th Muharram, Katcheri, Mall Road, Chuhur Chowk, Fleshman Hotel, Mareer Chowk, Liaquat Bagh, Fawara Chowk, Jamia Masjid Road, Kohati Bazaar, Chandni Chowk, C Block, Sadiqabad, Kuri Road, Gae Chowk, Rawal Road, Airport Road and Ammar Chowk. CPO Abbasi said the purpose of flag march was to display the preparedness of law-enforcement agencies to tackle any challenge and maintain law and order in the city during Muharram. He directed all the police officers to carry out effective security arrangements in their respective parts of the city.

On the other hand, the police announced the entry points of the city’s longest procession of 7th Muharram that starts from House of Saeen Sadiq and culminates at Imambargah Qadimi after passing its traditional routes. According to security plan, the Azadars will only be allowed to enter the procession from Gull Gulzar House, Abdul Jabbar Street, Chowk Ronda, Dhoke Ali Akbar, Committee Chowk, Dhoke Khaba, Iqbal Road, Khuwaja Jewellers, Fawar Chowk Church side, Kashmiri Bazaar, Bansawala Chowk and Bagh Sardaran. Nobody will be allowed to join procession other than the specific entry points, said the CPO.

Meanwhile, City Traffic Police announced comprehensive traffic plan for keeping traffic flow smooth on 7th Muharram in the city.

According to CTP spokesman Wajid Satti, the citizens or mourners would not be allowed to park cars, motorcycles or cycles along the route of the procession. The traffic police have placed diversions at different locations to clear the route of procession. He said extra warden force will be deputed to control traffic rush and facilitate the citizens and mourners.

Acting Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Yousaf Shahid, while talking to media persons, said the procession of the 7th Muharram would be provided with a clear route. In this regard, he said traffic would be diverted on substitute routes by placing diversions at Haji Chowk, Kuri Road, Service Road, Chirah Road, Raja Ashraf Road, Afandi Colony, Rawal Road Turn, Murree Road, Police Station NAB square, corner of Islamic Honey Centre on Murree Road, Amar Pura Chowk, Meter Pura Chowk, Chah Sultan, Tehmasabad, Glass Factory, Dhoke Hukam Dad, Mukha Singh, Naz Cinema Murree Road, Kohati Bazaar, Zafarul Haq Road, Hamid Khan Road, Gulistan Cinema, National Bank Murree Road, DAV College Road, China Market, Fawara Chowk, Mashriq Hotel, Novelty Cinema, Ganjmandi Road, Sabzi Mandi, Namak Mandi, Mochi Bazaar, Kalan Bazaar, Hemelton Bazaar, Bansanwala Chowk Purana Qila, Shah Nazar Pull, Purana Qilla, Pir Chuha Road, Banni Chowk and Roshan Bakery Chowk.
