ISLAMABAD: Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said that Pakistan wants de-escalation of tensions with India for the collective good of the entire region.

In an interview, the adviser said that Pakistan does not desire escalation of the situation and will continue diplomatic efforts for improvement of ties with India.

Sartaj, however, made it clear that Pakistan will never compromise on its principled stand on Kashmir and continue to extend political, moral, and diplomatic support to the Kashmiris struggling to get their inalienable right to self-determination.

About Afghanistan, the adviser said Pakistan will continue its reconciliatory role for bringing peace to the neighboring country.

To a question, he said the agreement between Afghan government and Hizb-e-Islami chief Gulbadin Hekmatyar is a good model.

He said if any other group wants to hold talks according to that model, Pakistan will welcome the dialogue process.
