Pakistan Post celebrates World Post Day

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Post celebrated World Post Day to show solidarity with the mission and goals of the Universal Postal Union.
Hand in hand with Universal Postal Union, Pakistan Post traditionally celebrates the World Post Day every year on October 9 with a new resolution to provide postal and financial services meeting the demands of customers for reliable and affordable services.
The UPU flag was hoisted by the Director General Pakistan Post Khalid Javed in a simple but prestigious ceremony organised in the Directorate General Islamabad. Postal officers and staff participated in the ceremony.  The message of the Director General UPU was read out by Deputy Director General Atifa Raffat on the occasion.
While addressing the officers and staff, Director General Pakistan Post said that Pakistan Post is totally committed to the goals and aspirations of the Universal Postal Union.
He said that the efforts of Pakistan Post to provide affordable postal services to every nook and corner of the country are highly respected at the UPU forum.  Based upon its size, population and human resources, Pakistan is ranked in leading countries of the world.
He also urged the postal workers to work with full dedication and devotion to further improve the postal services across the country in a competitive environment. Due to COVID-19, the celebrations of World Post Day were a bit different this year.
The ceremony was held virtually at UPU Headquarters on 8th October. In the light of UPU guidelines, Pakistan Post also celebrated World Post Day on October 8 instead of October 9 this year. The ceremony in Directorate General Pakistan Post Islamabad was held taking all precautionary measures i.e. social distancing and wearing of masks to avoid spread of corona virus.
Postal sector throughout the world has played a positive role during COVID-19. The theme of 2021 World Post Day is “Innovate to recover.” This highlights that the role of postal sector is beyond its core function of delivery of mail. The ceremony was closed after prayers for development of the Post and Pakistan. Similar UPU flag hoisting ceremonies were also held in offices of Postmasters General, Unit Offices and GPOs all over the country.
