KARACHI - Lahore Lions grabbed the top rung on the point table in the ten team in the MCB Junior Hockey Super League when they beat Sialkot Eagles by narrow 2-1 margin here on Monday night at the floodlit HCP. Three more points from latest victory boosted Lahore team's points total to 13 which is five points better than second placed Karachi Dolphins. Ghaffar hogged the limelight for the Lions when got both the goals for the victorious team. His first goal came through top of the D penalty stroke in 14th minute and second just two minutes from close through a traditional stroke. Three kinds of penalty strokes are awarded during competitions. The first one is traditional ten yards push, in second kind of stroke a player is given the possession of the ball on top of the D and allowed ten seconds to score. In the third kind of stroke the possession of the ball is given to the attacker on 25 yards and allowed ten second to score. Except for the traditional one the next two kinds of strokes are being experimented by the PHF. Karachi Dolphins lying second on points table outplayed Larkana Qalanders 3-1. Larkana team took the lead in second session with Yasir Ali converting a penalty corner. Karachi retaliated immediate after going into deficit scoring two goals in just sixty seconds. Sohail Ashraf neutralized the lead in 50th minute and in next minute Zubair Ahmed netted from open play to give 2-1 advantage to the home team. Aley Imran converted a PC to complete winning score line for the Dolphins. In the third contest of the day Multan accounted for Quetta by 2-0 margin. Multan skipper Khurram Shahzad netted lead in 23rd minute and Shahbaz confirmed the lead in 50th minute. Top eight teams on the points table ill qualify for the quarter finals. Four more matches will be played on Tuesday night.
