President to celebrate Eid in New York

ISLAMABAD President Asif Ali Zardari plans to celebrate the coming Eidul Fitr in New York and attend the UN General Assembly and Friends of Democratic Pakistan Summit Well-placed sources told The Nation on Tuesday that President Zardari and his entourage would be visiting the US from September 21-25 basically to attend the UN General Assembly session and would attend Friends of Democratic Pakistan summit and other functions as side events during his stay. Details relating to the size of the delegations and the Presidents activities in the USA are being finalized, Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit told The Nation. The spokesman confirmed that President Asif Ali Zardari would also visit a couple of other countries on his way back home. He refused to identify these countries or the purpose of the presidential visits there. These details are being finalized and I can not divulge any information at this stage for security reasons, Basit said. However, other sources privy to these developments, were of the view that President Zardari along with his entourage would celebrate Eidul Fitr in the USA where he has a scheduled meeting with US President Baraak Obama at FoDP summit on September 24. On his way back President Zardari would visit UK and Italy, sources said, adding that the President would also pay his usual visit to Dubai, UAE on his way to the USA. Zardari during one year in office as President had undertaken foreign visits, sparking off widespread criticism among the political circles alleging that these visits were more self-serving than bearing fruits for the country. Once again a four-day official cum Eid visit will actually extend over a much longer time period.
