RAWALPINDI - Six unidentified robbers barged into a jeweller’s shop here at Aashiyana Centre on Benazir Bhutto Road and looted 4.5-kg gold worth million of rupees in wee hours on Saturday.After receiving the information police rushed to the scene and collected essential evidence and recorded the statements of the watchmen of the shopping mall. A case has also been registered with no arrest or recovery. Police Station New Town Sub-Inspector (SI) Amanat Ali, who is also investigating the robbery case, while quoting the statement of two watchmen, said that five to six robbers arrived in a vehicle at 1:30am and asked them to open the gate impersonating themselves as government officials. They asked the watchmen that they would note down their names and other data as security measures, the SI said, adding that as the watchmen opened gate, the intruders pointed guns over their heads and later tied them with a rope.Later, the muggers smashed the locks of Patiala Jewellers and looted 4.5-kg of gold and ran away, the IO added. He informed that police, taking action on the complaint of Naveed Ahmed, the owner of Patiala Jeweller, taken up a case and started investigation. After the robbery, traders staged a protest and closed their shops. They chanted slogans against police. They demanded of police to arrest robbers as soon as possible and provide the traders with security. Station House Officer PS New Town Rafaqat Hussain, when contacted, said that all the high-ups of police including SP were on the crime scene and holding a meeting. 

He said that police raiding parties have been constituted to hunt down the robbers.
