Anti-polio campaign begins tomorrow


LAHORE - Three day anti-polio campaign will start on September 10 in vulnerable districts of Punjab. Inaugurating the drive by administering polio vaccine to the children of nomadic locality in Shahdra on Saturday, Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minster on Health Khawaja Salman Rafiq said that vaccine would be administrated to over 9.98 million children up to the age of 5 year. He said that campaign has been launched in Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Attock, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Layyah, Muzaffargarh and Rajanpur where polio virus was found in environment and ewerage water samples.
Salman Rafiq said that the campaign would specially focus on districts of Punjab adjacent to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that due to the special circumstances and terrorist activities, campaign could not be carried out effectively in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to which millions of children were deprived of required dose. He appealed to the parents to cooperate with government and administer polio vaccine to their children every time. He said that polio was not only a childhood disease but disability for entire life.
