LAHORE: Shumaila Almas has been running his beauty salon inside her two-room home at Chungi No-1 near Multan Medical College since her release in 2009 from the Multan central jail. She was imprisoned for robbery.  “My husband died in a roof collapse in 2007, leaving me in the lurch with five children,” she said, adding that she joined a ring of female robbers and got involved in crimes because she was illiterate and jobless. She went on: “I was arrested and jailed. I had never imagined. I got depressed and planned to commit suicide.” But, she added that her fellow inmates motivated her to acquire professional training and start her business after release. “Now, I am earning Rs1,500-2,000 daily. It was a blessing in disguise,” she said.
