KARACHI – PML-N Sindh Chief Syed Ghaus Ali Shah has demanded cancellation of controversial Sindh Local Government Ordinance 2012 and said that local bodies elections should be held after the general elections. Addressing a press conference after hosting a meeting of nationalist and federal parties at his residence on Saturday, the PML-N provincial chief appealed to the people of Sindh to participate in the shutter-down strike announced for September 13 against controversial local government ordinance.

The representatives of almost all nationalist and other opposition parties including Jamaat-e-Islami, Sindh United Party, Sindh Tarqi Passand Party, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mohaz (JSQM), Jeay Sindh Mohaz and others attended the meeting. Ghaus Ali Shah said that the tenure of present government was completing, so there is no mandate to the present govt to hold the local bodies’ elections. He said that the matter of local bodies’ polls should be left for the next government.

He said that PML-N supports the strike call given by the nationalist parties against the controversial local government ordinance. He said the local government ordinance was a conspiracy against the federation and Sindh, through which the PPP government plotted to divide and create differences among the people of Sindh. He said that his party will approach ANP, PML-F and other parties to adopt joint strategy against controversial local government ordinance.
