KARACHI – Dr. Antonio Avallone, Italian Trade Commissioner held a meeting with Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Adviser to the Prime Minister for Textiles  and discussed the progress of the duty free access of the European Union market for 75 Pakistani textile products.  Dr Baig apprised the Italian Trade Commissioner of the current status of the textile industry and the recently constituted Textile Committee to help achieve the $100 billion export target.  Dr. Avallone informed Dr. Baig of the new policy of the Italian government to explore bilateral investment opportunities in Italy and Pakistan. Also discussed the competitiveness of Pakistan’s textile products as compared with other regional countries such as Bangladesh and India in view of the strengths of Pakistan’s textile industry in the niche sectors such as denim, says a press release.
