KARACHI - Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on Saturday took elected representatives of PPP’s Karachi Division into confidence over the Sindh Peoples Local Government Ordinance 2012, which was widely criticised by opposition parties.
A meeting was held at CM Secretariat, which was also attended by Nabeel Gabool, Abdul Qadir Patel, Sher Muhammad Baloch, Rafique Engineer, Sharjeel Memon, Akhtar Jadoon, Haji Muzaffar Shujra, Nadeem Bhutto, Sajid Jokhio,  Shahla Raza,  Shama Arif Mithiani, Nargis N D Khan, Najma Saeed Chawla, Saleem Hingoro, Saleem Khursheed Khokhar, Rashid Rabbani and others.
The meeting discussed in detail the political situation prevailing in the province, post-local government political situation, pace of development schemes and inter-party relations and enhancing the coordination. The meeting also discussed to immediately initiate coordination with leaders of coalition partners of present government with regard to remove reservations and differences on Sindh People’s Local Government Ordinance-2012. The meeting in a resolution fully supported the Sindh Peoples Local Government Ordinance 2012 and termed it in the larger interest of people of Sindh and fully hoped that due to new local govt law, the genuine problems of common man will be solved at grass root level, according to an official statement issued from CM Secretariat.
Though, the official statement claimed that PPP Karachi office-bearers and elected representatives supported the local government ordinance, but sources privy to the meeting confirmed to TheNation that the many officebearers criticised decision of declaring Karachi one municipal district under Mayor. The meeting in its resolution lauded the efforts of President Asif Ali Zardari and positive thinking, political vision and strategy.
 Other issues were also discussed in detail. It was also re-affirmed that present government will take all appropriate and practical measures for depressed and vast majority of people.
Meanwhile, MQM chief Altaf Hussain and President Asif Ali Zardari have discussed the situation emerging out of the promulgation of the local government system in Sindh on the telephone. They also exchanged views on the overall political situation of the country.
President Zardari said that the system of the local government was introduced in the entire province in order to solve the problems of the people on priority.
 and with a view to transferring power at the grass-roots level. He said that the leaders of both the MQM and the PPP had worked day and night for the system. 

President Zardari said that the PPP would work along with the MQM and all other parties in the coalition for solving the basic problems of the people of Sindh, progress of the country and stability of the democracy.
Altaf Hussain said that the introduction of the local government system by the elected government for solving the problems of the people at their doorstep was a positive step.

He regretted that certain elements were uselessly opposing the people-friendly system, and they were undermining the peace of the province on this pretext. 

Hussain said that the PPP and the MQM would make united efforts against the elements that were trying to destroy the peace of the Sindh province. He thanked President Zardari for taking personal interest in the introduction of the local government system. 
Both the leaders agreed to make united efforts for solving of the problems of the people and for the stability of democracy in the country.
